Introduction to Kota Kinabalu

Inside the city of Kota Kinabalu, there are many things you can do and many places to visit. Among the great food that you can find in the city sightseeing is one area you can always count on to make your trip memorable.

Built as a memorial to Francis George Atkinson who was the then first District Officer of Kota Kinabalu is the Atkinson Clock Tower. This is an old structure that has stood the test of time for many years and had withstand air raids and war during World War 2. this tower is known to be the oldest standing structure in the whole state.

The Sabah Museum is hoisted at the Bukit Istana Lama. For a trip down the historical stories of Sabah, you can visit the museum which also hosts the Zoological Garden, Heritage Village and the Ethno Botanic Garden.

The Kota Kinabalu Bird Santuary is located in the heart of the city. This is a great park to take a walk in while enjoying the greeneries of wildlife and observing the many lifestyles of different species of birds.

Signal Hill is a place where most people go to get a bird’s eye view of the city. To grab a scene of the horizontal wonders of KK city that includes the islands, you must not miss this spot.

Every Sunday, there is a Gaya Street Fair you can buy almost anything. From food, medicine, handicrafts, clothes and souvenirs, it is imperative that you bargain to get yourself a good buy here. The concept is very similar to the Pasar Malam or Morning markets found all over the country.

Taking a short boat ride, you can land yourself in Tunku Abdul Rahman Islands Park, which consists of 5 islands, Mamutik, Manukan, Sapi, Sulug and Gaya. Here you can find resorts, chalets, which are affordable. If you like to dive, picnic, to rest and relax, and particularly watersports like snorkeling or jet skiing, you can find these facilities available at an affordable price.

For those who like shopping, there are a few major shopping malls like Centrepoint, Wawasan Plaze which are available for you to spend your time and money on.

All in all, KK town offers a whole range that would make any holiday complete. From islands to shopping to wildlife to watersports to the beach to yachting, you will find that there seemed to have something for anyone. This is perfection at its best, you just have to experience it.
