Located about 40 kilometers from Kinabalu National Park is Poring Hot Springs. Poring, which in its nature accent means a type of bamboo is a humid area which naturally hosts the hot springs. Believed by many to be of a specific cure for body aches and sores, tourists and locals alike will throng this place to ‘take a dip’. It has been more conventional for mountain climbers to take a rest at Poring after the long climb to rest, relax and rejuvenate. For anyone who is still up for another challenge, Poring offers another jungle track up to the famous canopy walk. There are hostels and chalets available at this location for those who wish to spend the night in this natural attraction. Once at the complex, you do not necessarily need to dip into the hot tubs available. After all, there are numerous tubs available, all flowing with hot water channeled from the springs itself. Take your time. A walk up the forest will bring you through 2 waterfalls. On another trail, you will be able to get to the canopy walk. It is challenging and scary as you will be elevated at least 30 meters above ground. You will be walking about 20 minutes and for the challenging, it is also very satisfying as you will be able to view the forest from the ‘top’. The forest around here are rich and coloured with flora and fauna. Some lucky tourist would be able to catch the ‘rafflesia’ the biggest flower in the world, although it is not an easy feat to catch the blooming of the aforementioned species. In whatever the case, whether you are from the National Park, the Mountain or just passing by, Poring Hot Springs is not a place you want to miss, at least take a dip, or a break, or a walk, it would be fun. |
